A Portofino I Will Never See
This painting was started very early in 2007. It started as a gift for a young lass with whom I talked (as couples do) of getaways and romantic destinations. Hers was Portofino. It's a beautiful place so I can't fault her for that. Shortly after that, she handed me my walking papers and that was the end of that. This inspired me, though, to try an capture that moment of realization when all the dreams you shared with a person have just come to an abrupt end. This is a very bittersweet moment that carries with it some joy at having shared something, even for just a little while. Artistically speaking, I am very proud of this one. I managed to get some light and textures that surprised even me. The painting (again the photos don't do it justice) is filled with little scratches and marks which create a very vibrant, organic space.
