The Mountains of Madness, a mixed media and oil paint work on canvas-board, was originally the right panel of a diptych but now stands alone. It consists of a large, dominant, and uniformly painted area, separated from a sky-blue band at the top of the painting by a row of stylized pyramidal shapes. Some collaged elements are included.
